A Healthy Devotional Life–Part 2

February 11, 2009 — Leave a comment

I’ve decided to make this a series on a healthy devotional life.  Here are some of the things we must be careful of as we build a healthy devotional life.

1.  The desire to go deeper breeds its own addiction and may keep us from seeing the needs of the world.

  • It’s not about us.  Let’s never forget that.
  • It’s like those who reverbish cars and never take them out to drive them.  We must work on our faith, but we must also live it.

2.  Most will see our quest as other–worldly and we must be careful to keep shining the light in the world.

  • We must be careful not to become so heavenly minded that we become no earthly good.
  • We can’t be like monks who live in a monastery.

 3.  We can’t allow ourselves to become the source of Truth in place of Christ.

  • Sometimes we might take ourselves too seriously and become Pharisaical in our relationship to other Christians.
  • We are trying to be close to Christ—not be Christ.
