David’s Offering

Read this scripture in my quiet time today:

But the king (David) replied to Araunah, “No, I insist on paying you for it.  I will not sacrifice to the Lord my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.”  (2 Samuel 24:24)

Araunah had suggested that King David take his oxen and sacrifice them since he didn’t have any with him to sacrifice.

David ended up buying Araunah’s threshing floor and oxen, so the sacrifice was his own.

Questions this scripture raised in my mind:

How much do our sacrifices to God actually cost us?

Are our sacrifices our own?

Unless we’re a pre-schooler who is putting the dollar Mommy or Daddy gave us in the offering plate in Kids’ Church, our offerings should reflect a serious sacrifice on our part.
